Jan Litjens Fly-In, Veulen, August 30
The Jan Litjens Microlight Fly-In is held once a year on the grass of Veulen International Airfield. You might never heard about this airfield but maybe that is because it only exists for two days a year. Most of the microlights are from Grubbenvorst (now Traffic Port Venlo) but also foreign aircraft from Belgium and Germany often vistit the field.
It wasn't very warm and there was a strong wind blowing but that didn't stop me from going!
It was my first visit to Veulen International. A small field with small aircraft near a small village. There were only a few aircraft on the field. I was hoping for some more aircraft but I think due to the hard winds most foreign pilots stayed at home. Nevertheless there were a number of microlights taking off and landing.
When I arrived I stood on the public side of the field. On the other side of the runway was a lot more space and better light so I asked the staff of Veulen International if it was possible to take pictures from the other side of the field. 'No problem! Just stay behind the orange cones!' they told me. Ok! Thats what I love about small events; genial.
I spend about two hours on the field and after no new developments I went back home again. You don't see many microlights on the bigger airshows and fly-ins but these guys in Veulen are having a blast. Flying like it should be!
