MAKS 2009, static display, August 21-22

MAKS (MAKC in Russian) is the Russian Internation Aviation and Space Salon held once every two years on Zhukovskiy AB South-East of Moscow. MAKS 2009 welcomed over 550 000 visitors, including 65 000 business visitors from 80 countries.

The static display is large and has a great variety of mostly military aircraft. From the very small to the largest in it's kind! Most of the aircraft are behind small blue fences. Almost all day long there are people standing next to the aircraft so taking pictures of the aircraft without people on them is only possible hard but not impossible. Just wait until they move and make your picture fast before somebody shows up again. Some of the aircraf are not behind blue fences and almost impossible to photograph without people.

Before you can enter the airshow you have to pass the security check and it's not easy! First you have to put your bag(s) on a table and empty your pockets. Then they search you with a metal detector. After that it's time to investigate your bag(s). You have to take almost everything out and show it to them. If you brought something to drink you had to open the bottle and drink of it. You also had to show them your camera works (by taking a picture) and is not some kind of bazooka. After all the checks it was finally time to watch some Russian heavy metal!

There were also a number of AA vehicles present. And offcourse there were a lot of hangars with (military) aviation related toys in it. I only visited a few hangars because my main priority was the aircraft outside. I only had two days to watch the entire static and flying display. Not enough time to watch it all...
