Gallery > 2009 > RNLAF Luchtmachtdagen Volkel AB RNLAF Luchtmachtdagen Volkel AB, June 19 Page 1 of 2 Every year in June the Royal Netherlands Airforce (RNLAF) organises Netherlands biggest airshow. This year the airshow took place Friday June 19 and Saturday June 20 on Volkel AB. I only visited the show on June 19. Friday is probably the best day to visit the airshow because on Saturday there are mostly twice as many visitors then Friday! The airshow attracts arround 250.000 people every year this year was no exception.
The static aircraft on Volkel are always on the taxiway paralel to the runway. Many of the flying participants are also parked on the static display. The good thing about this is that you can watch the aircrafts start up (the display teams are always nice)! The bad thing is that they block you view on the runway so photographing the aircraft during take-off and landing is hard.
I arrived at about eight 'o' clock in the morning when the gates open. The weather was still looking good but the weather guy said we could expect some rain. After seeing the static I searched for a spot to photograph the flying display and I was lucky to find one near the helicopters with a clear view on part of the runway.
Halfway the airshow the RNLAF demonstrated her airpower demo with 15 F-16's a KDC-10 and some Helicopters. Every year they show a new demo but this years demo was the best I've ever seen! After the airpower demo it was time for some heavy metal! Kicking off was the RNLAF Solo Display team with there new demobird (very cool paintjob)!
